Story: Serge is delighted with his hottest order and can not wait around to demonstrate it to his best close friend, Marc. They’ve identified every single other for several decades and have seasoned their share of ups and downs. Still, Serge is taken aback by Marc’s reaction to the painting Serge recently has acquired for a ‘mere’ 200,000 francs.

To Serge, an affluent and divorced dermatologist, the white canvas with faint white traces epitomizes the style and, to him, substance of a good modern French artist. It is worth every franc not only as a possession of high present day art but also as a shrewd investment. In the feeling of Marc, a useful aeronautical engineer, it is a worthless piece of garbage, and he resents how his close friend of 15 many years has been suckered with its ‘faux’ benefit.

As their preliminary disagreement escalates into a lot more pointed jabs at just about every other, they individually seek out the feeling of their mutual mate Yvan. The latter is a conciliator by character and in this situation seeks to mollify each and every of his good friends. This kind of an effort and hard work distracts Yvan from the nervousness he is encountering about his impending marriage to a younger lady whose uncle is Yvan’s employer, albeit in the stationery small business which Yvan dreads.

Yvan features distinctive interpretations of Serge’s controversial obtain to Serge and Marc, which functions perfectly more than enough until eventually all a few of them obtain for a friendly evening meal. Marc’s continued vanity in attacking Serge’s inventive preferences boils about into an unsightly confrontation, which is briefly positioned on hold although both of those of them take unfair gain of the fewer intellectual Yvan to ridicule his forthcoming marriage ceremony and to goad him into canceling these kinds of programs entirely.
