She been given her PhD in art background from Columbia College, and has served on the New Museum Board of Trustees given that 2016.
In earning the announcement, museum director Lisa Phillips observed: “Isolde possesses a truly distinctive mixture of abilities, affinities, and practical experience. These attributes coupled with her seem judgement and knowing of the many complexities facing our area, will provide the New Museum properly in its subsequent chapter.”
Brielmaier’s appointment comes at a vital time for the museum amid a tumultuous 12 months and accusations of “toxic” management by museum staff members. Last November, artwork collector Seth Stolbun announced his resignation from the board of administrators at Rhizome, the digital art-focused corporation affiliated with the museum.
Stolbun shared his resignation on Instagram and cited a New York Situations expose in which workforce alleged circumstances of verbal harassment, psychological abuse, and unethical small business tactics at the establishment, in which a former registrar identified as the museum a “sweatshop,” even though a former assistant explained that Phillips operates the institution as “her private fiefdom.”
