To honor the University of Michigan Course of 2021, undergraduate pupils from the U-M Penny W. Stamps College of Artwork & Layout made a chalk paint mural on the road outdoors of the Rackham Graduate Faculty.

The University of Michigan graduation mural honors the U-M Course of 2021 and was 29 undergraduate learners from the U-M Penny W. Stamps Faculty of Artwork & Layout. It is found on the avenue outside the house of the Rackham Graduate School (915 E. Washington Avenue), amongst Thayer and Fletcher Streets.

Situated at 915 E. Washington St., between Thayer and Fletcher streets, the mural took nearly five hours to paint on Sunday, April 25. It is on view until Could 2 as section of the university’s commencement celebrations.

The mural is 18 x 400 ft. and includes various “flying” graduation caps set among white clouds, with a block M and text looking through “Go Blue Class of 2021” at the heart.

The challenge was led by Stamps alumnae Yen Azzaro and Liz Guilmet, alongside with the Office environment of the President and the Office of College Progress Activities.

According to project collaborators, it was produced to communicate feelings of appreciation, accomplishment and an unforgettable Michigan experience to the graduating class of 2021, the broader campus local community and Ann Arbor town citizens.

Azzaro, an artist and illustrator, stated the function arrived with each other as aspect of a collaborative approach involving pupils who assisted with mural structure, installation or the two. College students submitted design concepts to Azzaro and Guilmet, who labored alongside one another to parse out the most practical features, translating the get the job done into a final design schematic.

The closing style and design was digitally rendered into a grid and each section was led by a university student who oversaw the components, painting and group communications.

“Collaborating on this mural has been a testament to the talent and ingenuity of the college students at Stamps,” Azzaro explained. “Even in the course of crunch time with finals nearing, students actually stepped up to be staff leads and supply a variety of strategy choices.”
