The Chamber Tunes Society of Williamsburg presents the Formosa Quartet* Tuesday night, April 5, 2022 at 8:00 PM in the Williamsburg Regional Library Theatre.
Shaped in 2002 when the four founders arrived collectively for a concert tour of Taiwan, the Quartet’s cultural id has because expanded to include broader American and pan-Asian roots. Their title, although continue to a tribute to the society of Taiwan, is derived from the Latin formosus, indicating “fantastically shaped”.
The associates of Formosa – Jasmine Lin (violin), Wayne Lee (violin), Che-Yen Chen, (viola) and Deborah Pae (cello) – have set up by themselves separately as main solo, chamber and orchestral musicians. With degrees from Juilliard, Curtis Institute and New England Conservatory, they have executed in venues all through the United States, Asia and Europe, including critically acclaimed performances at the Library of Congress, Lincoln Middle, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Wigmore Hall in London and the Berliner Philharmonie. The Formosa is deeply dedicated to exploring new mediums for string quartet, while retaining its mission of championing Taiwanese audio and advertising and marketing the arts in Taiwan.
The Formosa retains a range of residencies across North The usa and Asia. They founded the Formosa Chamber Songs Competition and is also the college Quartet-in-Home for the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. The Quartet performs a leading purpose in commissioning new is effective, contributing substantially to the contemporary string quartet repertory.
The associates of the Formosa Quartet are at present on faculty at Jap Michigan College, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Roosevelt College (Illinois) and the College of California, Los Angeles.
