The Cheech Marin Heart for Chicano Art & Lifestyle of the Riverside Artwork Museum, California, has broken ground and will open in spring next 12 months. […] A general public-non-public partnership amongst the Riverside Art Museum, the City of Riverside, and comic Cheech Marin—one of the world’s foremost collectors of Chicano art—the centre will be, as Marin states, the “center of Chicano artwork, not only painting, but sculpture, photography, and video arts.”

Nicknamed “The Cheech,” the new art and society heart will locate a home within the remodeled former community library developing in Riverside, California. The adaptive-reuse conversion of this 1964 mid-century building is made by Los Angeles-centered architects Site & Turnbull in collaboration with museum designer WHY.
“The semi-round entry actions attract the visitor to the setting up, and the open ‘front porch’ podium will feature large-scale sculptures to be rotated in accordance to new programming and exhibitions,” describes the task description. “The building’s entry lobby is envisaged as a zócalo or open town square, a central gathering room that will hook up the 4 main galleries and offer features these types of as a reward store and, ultimately, a cafe.”
The Cheech is expected to open in spring 2022.
