5 Reasons Sterling Silver Jewellery Is Better Than Gold

Rehan

Gold or silver? When it comes to jewellery, this is an age-old question that has been passed down through the generations and never given a reliable, accurate answer.

Of course, there are pros and cons to both, which is why anything claiming to be the answer can often be seen as void. At the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference.

There are, however, specific reasons why – in this author’s opinion – the qualities of silver could outweigh those of gold. To be more specific, there are five. Starting with the most obvious one:

Silver Is Durable

One of the best things about silver is that it can last you a lifetime and – if taken care of correctly – will look exactly the same forty years after purchase. This is especially true of sterling silver and .925 silver. If you purchase the right piece and give it the appropriate care, it can stay with you forever.

Silver Is Malleable

Pure silver is softer than gold or platinum, meaning it is malleable enough to make accurate and beautiful shapes. This is why so many specific jewellery designs, such as chai jewellery or hamsa jewellery, are predominantly achieved with silver. It is easier, and it suits the design process.

Silver Is Easy To Accessorise

What do we mean by this? Well, although gems and colourisation are doable with gold jewellery, they are far more eloquent with a silver canvas Placing an emerald jewel on a silver band, for instance, will allow that jewel to pop and take centre stage. Gold often catches the eye and cancels out the impact of other accessories.

Silver Allows You To Keep Up With Trends

Silver has become such a constant in the jewellery world that it has similarly become a constant in all the trends. This allows you to keep up to date in a constantly evolving fast-fashion landscape. For example, uncut minerals have recently become a big trend, and these stones are often set in sterling silver. Keeping silver pieces on rotation can allow you to take advantage of trends like this and never fall behind.

Silver Is Versatile

Although this point comes down to taste, gold can often look better in certain scenarios than others. For instance, if you’re going out for dinner and you put on a gold necklace, there may be a few moments of hesitation. Does it work? Is it the right choice for this specific evening? Silver, on the other hand, works on any occasion. It adds a classy touch to any outfit and any event, meaning you can simply pick out your favourite piece and be content in the knowledge it will work.

It All Comes Down To Your Taste

Once again, the question of gold or silver always comes down to personal taste. You might not agree with anything on that list, and that’s okay!

The important thing is that you choose the jewellery which feels right to you. All jewellery is beautiful, so trust your own instinct and go for whatever fits!
