These figures are partially bounded/contained, but frequently the borders of the body are exploded, entities turn into entangled, and the attributes inside are abstracted and distorted. Brushstrokes that build tightness or smoothness blur into tough energetic mark making in a drive and pull among formed figures and sorts inside of abstraction.
While these non-narrative performs do not established a scene, they do set a presence that the viewer is guided as a result of through smears and swirls of colour and paint as properly as vacant house – balancing chaos with peaceful. Led by the brush, the rate of the exhibition is set by the artist’s physicality, actions and rhythm.
The scale of the paintings are significant – mapped by the limit of Rouy’s have entire body. His gestures transmute his own kinetic power on to the canvas in a restless exploration of the human kind and its limitations. Leaning into abstraction, these sensorial is effective convey what a entire body feels like and the distinct bodily and psychic states that we expertise – held up like hazy mirrors for us to discern our very own outlines.
